My my, Sir Ian seems to be leading more than one of us into temptation! For me, it's not self-mutilation I'm contemplating, but (as I clearly warned Rachael before she left) Murder.

"Hand over those plane and theatre tickets, or you DIE!" were my exact words, I believe. Well, she didn't heed my Dire Warnings, and has even FLAUNTED her direst cruelty by sending us these gloating pictures! I will savor my Revenge...I don't know yet what it will be, but it will be the Terror of the World!

LOL, I wish. It's more in the category of those "golf clubs" and "mink coat" we've joked about for thirty-odd years.

I certainly subscribe to your interpretation of "power." It makes me think of what John Henry Newman referred to as "influence": how we, as persons, relate to and guide, support, and encourage one another. We have influence, whether we acknowledge it or not. And, of course, it's for good or ill; that's up to us. Culture, as I think Christopher Dawson, explained is rooted in religious truth--including, of course, the greatest story ever told: the Incarnation.
